Kirthi Jayakumar is a lawyer and feminist researcher with a specialization in the areas of Women, Peace, and Security, Transitional Justice, Feminist Foreign Policy, and Gender-Based Violence. She founded The Gender Security Project, a digital repository on the WPS Agenda and Conflict-related Sexual Violence. She coded Saahas, a mobile app and chatbot to help survivors of gender-based violence find help across 196 countries, and to enable bystander intervention. She formerly founded and ran the Red Elephant Foundation, a civilian peacebuilding initiative that works for gender equality through storytelling, advocacy and digital interventions. She has trained over 7,000 individuals in bystander intervention, over 20,000 children in safe and unsafe touch awareness, and over 1,000 teachers on child sexual abuse prevention and timely response. Kirthi holds an MA in Peace and Conflict Studies as a Commonwealth Scholarship Awardee from CTPSR, Coventry University, an MA in Sustainable Peace in a Contemporary World from UPEACE, Costa Rica, and a bachelor’s degree in Law from SOEL, Chennai. Kirthi is a Vital Voices Engage Fellow, and a former Vital Voices Lead Fellow.
